What I'd like to see is a projected cost to build and to operate. I get the feeling that the "no-way" and "just a novelty" critics don't realize how (relatively) cheap it is to put up some towers and string some cable compared to concrete and steel spans. The 2/3 mile Portland Tram cost $57 million. From a quick google search, that gets you between 5-10 miles of 6-lane interstate (this is for on land, not a bridge across a large river) or about 1/6 of a Paris Metro Mile. Sure, there are tradeoffs: it's not very fast, but it is new capacity unlike a bus.
